Commercial Catering Gas Safety Certificate (CP42):

 

 

Purpose:

  • Verifies the safe operation and performance of gas appliances used in commercial kitchens.
  • Identifies any potential hazards or defects that could compromise safety. For example, a gas fryer fitted next to a sink.
  • Provides documented proof of compliance with gas safety regulations, which is often required by insurance companies and local authorities.

 

 

What do we check during inspection:

 

  • Visual checks: Examining appliances for visible defects, clearances, stability, and proper catering hose installations.
  • Operational testing: Verifying functionality and safe operation of all gas appliances, we check safety devices like flame failure protection.
  • Extraction, ventilation, and air quality testing: Ensuring satisfactory extraction and ventilation performance and safe exhaust of combustion gases.
  • CO2 (carbon dioxide) level testing: Measuring air quality in the kitchen including CO (carbon monoxide) and CO2 levels and ensuring they stay within safe limits.
  • Gas pressure or gas rating of gas appliances:   Compare actual readings with manufacturer data badge.
  • Tightness tests: Checking for leaks and ensuring correct gas pressure.
  • Gas interlock checks: Testing the presence and functionality of the gas interlock system, including the gas interlock panel, solenoid gas valve, and emergency stop buttons.

 

 

When should I get a CP42?

 

  • The CP42 certificate should be obtained:
    • Annually: At least once within 12 months, regardless of service needs. We can set up a reminder to make sure you get your gas certificate renewed before it expires.
    • After any alterations or installations: To ensure new or modified gas equipment operates safely.
